MY Strengths:
What is To Come
There are many personality tests worldwide, ranging from the Myer Briggs to BuzzFeed personality tests. Somewhere in that range is StrengthQuest, a personality test that highlights your DNA of talents. My top five strengths are ideation, adaptability, relator, futuristic, and intellection. When reading my report I had a lot of “aha” moments since I related to the strengths I was given. Using the reports I will develop skills that will help me in my academic and personal journeys. very strategic thinking based, which is not bad; however, I want to become more well-rounded. I tend to get stuck in the thinking/planning phase. So, at Agnes Scott College, I hope to develop my "doing" strengths or, in the words of StrengthQuest, "Executing" talents.
Though I'm not too sure how to name it, I would like to work on my ability to act on things. I stated before that I'm very in my head, and I feel like one way to better myself is to move from within myself and put things I think about out into the world.
There's this one journey that I've wanted to embark on for as long as I can remember. I've always wanted to create music, and I know I can. I'm confident in my creative writing skills, which reflect my ideation talent, and I can use that to finally produce a song that has been swirling around my head for ages. Therefore, I plan to write and release the music I've had in my head during my time here at Agnes Scott. To do this, I am dedicating time to completing it, which entails reading more poetry, listening to artists that inspire me, and taking a music theory class. I will start by writing at least one poem daily, and when registration opens up, I will sign up for Music Theory I.
This project also entails ensuring I don't think myself out of doing it, like when I made a cover of “No Rehab” by Amy Winehouse, only to never post it, even though that was what I intended. As StrengthQuest says, "Just because [I] enjoy thinking doesn't mean it's always focused. Sometimes [I] may find [myself] feeling lost or overwhelmed by your thoughts." By understanding how this trait could get in the way of my goals, I can figure out how to combat it. To produce the song, I will ask a friend to be an accountability partner to discourage me from giving up.
It takes many notes to write a melody, just like it takes a lot of words to write an essay, and it takes a lot of talents to make a personality.
We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but once we better understand how to utilize them, navigating this world around us becomes much more approachable than mindlessly tackling circumstances in ways that don't suit you. Thanks to StrengthQuest, I have more perspective on how I can handle different situations in the future.
